Thanks for the information. I am 3 days post-surgery. The relief is amazing. I would suggest to others to wait until your procedure before buying the shopping list. My foley was removed the next morning after surgery. From your list the only thing I needed was the absorbent underwear. The pain was very tolerable, no need to tape the foley line to my leg, etc. My Dr gave me a prescription antibiotic, so no need for the urinary tract meds. Not a big expenditure, but just no need to spend and not use. Good luck to all going into this procedure.

Hello, day of surgery today. Out of surgery in my recovery room. Had spinal anesthesia. Doing good so far. Doctor says should be able to take catheter out tomorrow Saturday. We have to wait to see if the ladder receptors are working and sending message from the bladder to the brain to tell me to pee. I will follow through with other days as I go along. Thank you have a good day, sir.

G'day from Australia, my Urologist said I don't have BPH, but BBPH, he then said it is a bloody big prostate hyperlasia Was supposed to have surgery this month, but my Wife last Oct found out she had bladder cancer, short story, it is out and I am her carer and do the stoma bag changes, am concerned as She can't do the changes and I am the only One who can we are in our early 70's, I have put the op off as she needs me way more than me having surgery, of course I tell her it is fine and not to worry, but as you will know, passing razorblades and taking ages to urinate is not fun, would I still be able to do Stoma bag changes for her? The change has Very little to no weight, and about 3/4 hr for total change, but bending over her to remove the bag and also putting on a new One, may be an issue Do you reckon I could still doing her changes? Cheers and appreciate what you have posted. Inc the follow up

I'm going to answer this from my perspective because I'm a "protector", and when it counts I have a high pain threshold. I'm pretty certain that if I had to do it to take care of my wife I would have been able to do it. The only time frame that it wouldn't have been possible was when I was still in recovery in the hospital and maybe the first day home. Other than that, I think I cold have done it for certain.

The removal was accompanied by the worst pain that I have ever felt in my life. I then made about 4 attempts to urinate through the day. Thanks for this video. I'm 53 and have been monitoring my PSA for about 15 years. A couple of years ago, it doubled, so I had an MRI and fusion biopsy done, finding 2 PI-RAD lesions on the transitional zone, diagnosed with BPH. I have been on Flomax and Rapaflo (larger dose later). The Rapaflo gives me retrograde ejaculation. At first it freaked me out, but now I don't mind it so much. Two years later, a recent MRI (yesterday) showed I have a new PI-RAD4 lesion in the peripheral zone, which isn't great news (90% of prostate cancers happen there, I hear). I still have to talk to my doc about it, but I imagine we're going back in for a fusion MRI to get a targeted biopsy done. While it isn't 100% that it is malignant, my prostate is growing, so I'm preparing myself by finding out about all the procedures. Thanks for your frank video. I really appreciate it. Helps to listen to other guys who have been through it.

My frank advice is never ever go for TURP. This is the most disastrous surgery invented in medical history. It will leave you with more health complications and turn your life upside down . I have also given my comments below. I did my TURP in Dec 2022 and soon afterwords I developed urinary bladder stenosis for which I had to under go another operation in August2023. aggravating my health complication further . Before TURP I had to urinate nearly 3-4 times during night . I did not have any other problem. Now Im having to get up more than 4 times during night for urination, penis tip burning like hell and forced urination.

Down here you can buy narcotic pain meds over the counter with no Rx at any drug store and the Dr said if it hurts just buy pain med.--By the way, my full coverage medical insurance cost me $35 USD a month with a $1 or $2 USD deductible. Thanks for helping those of us who need it! I just installed a center stand on my 2016 Honda CTX700D, a lightweight at only 518 pounds. I was only able to get the bike on the stand one time after numerous attempts, and even pulling a muscle. Your technique is something I will be trying. I'm a noobie rider so I don't have much experience. The only reason I can come up with for why the board method works is that it reduces the distance the bike has to rise to get on the stand, due to the thickness of the board. I bet most others got it right away, but I didn't. Duh. So using a 1" board instead of a 3/4" board should make it even easier. There is a comment below in this regard. I'm 72, and just got my license in March. I'm in good shape - but not strong like bull.

Day 6 Post TURP. Procedure was at 5 pm on a Friday and was discharged around 720pm that same day. Was instructed to drink 2 + liters a day of bottled water and follow up on Monday for removal of catheter. Hook it on shower door and tape it with a strip of medical tape to your leg after your showers as explained in this video. The catheter used on me only had 2 outlet towards the bag and not 3. I only saw a small blood clot on day 3, No pain at all for me, not even when I peed. I used the depends for 3 days only as I stopped staining them after I peed, then just gym shorts. Catheter was removed on Monday, was given 200 cc thru catheter and was told after removal I had to pee out at least half to be sent home without it and I did, peed out 150 cc. Was then told to keep drinking the water and not lift more than a gallon of milk until the end of the month and was given a follow up appointment in 3 months. Guess everyone is different because I have had zero pain or maybe they making small changes to this procedure that is better for the patient. I didn’t even need the pills for the pain when you pee, need to return them to Walmart. So far so good.

I wondered when you would get to side effects, such as retrograde ejaculation. Apparently, lots of the procedures destroy the internal urethral sphincter (smooth muscle at the bladder neck; it used to be considered a separate muscle; now, it's thought to be part of the muscle that surrounds the bladder, but it operates independently, so it might as well be considered a separate thing). Two urologists I asked denied that it exists. Every single person I talk to who had prostate surgery is pissed because they were misled about such symptoms as retrograde ejaculation. If you don't have bladder cancer, seems like there's no reason to be removing anything but the prostate tissue that's squeezing the urethra. [And, maybe, even with cancer, there's no reason to remove the muscle tissue.] Supposedly SOME urologists have discovered that their patients want to maintain all sexual function and perform surgery that doesn't mess with the muscle tissue formerly known as the internal urethral sphincter. [One study on the NIH web site says that the fairly high (temporary) urinary incontinence level from HOLEP is that the destruction of the internal sphincter puts more load on the external sphincter, and it takes a while for the latter to become strong enough... There are plenty of papers on the NIH site (including some from 2024) that mention the internal urethral sphinter. ] I can accept a doctor saying things about changing views about some details of the smooth muscle that clenches upon ejaculation to make the semen goes out rather than into the bladder, but to deny the existence altogether is a disqualifier for anybody who wants to perform prostate surgery on me. [The HOLEP surgeon I talked to said ~99.99999% chance of retrograde ejaculation, but denied that there's a sphincter. I was so shocked that I didn't ask her to explain how the RE happens.

I just passed the first anniversary of my TURP. It helped, but I normally still do not have what I would call a normal evacuation primarily because my prostate is still very large. I have to avoid constipation because the gap between my colon and urethra is very small and it doesn't take much to impede the flow. It is a non-stop battle. But, overall, I am in better shape than I was. I did a urolift and PAE without success before the TURP. I started having serious flow problems about 10 years ago at age 60. I no longer need to take flowmax. There still is urgency and I have tried several bladder relaxants. The one that works best for me is Myrbetriq, but I only use it when I travel because it is pretty expensive. I also had non-stop UTIs for the first three months after the procedure, and that was no fun. I took 6 antibiotics before one worked. That wrecked my colon for a few months. The upside is, for whatever reason, I have full ejaculation, the same as before the TURP. Any procedure you try is subject to risk, so for those contemplating a procedure I would recommend to check online or on RUclips for discussions like this one to find out what is happening to patients in the real world. The doctors know a lot, but most of them have not been patients. Thanks for this video and good luck to all!
